OpenClaw

OpenClaw is a self-hosted AI agent platform that runs entirely on your own machine, giving it full access to your files, shell, and browser while keeping data off third-party servers. You interact through messaging apps you already use: WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage, Discord, Slack, Signal, and 20+ others. The agent handles tasks autonomously across those channels without requiring a dedicated app. Under the hood, OpenClaw uses a WebSocket control plane running locally. Agents can execute shell commands, automate a bundled Chromium browser, read and write files, and call 50+ integrations including GitHub, Gmail, Obsidian, and Spotify. Skills are packaged as plugins: managed, bundled, or workspace-level, and agents can write new skills on the fly. The project went from zero to over 300k GitHub stars faster than almost any project in open-source history, with the HN community comparing it to what Apple Intelligence was supposed to be. Power users run it on homelabs and expose it via Tailscale or SSH tunneling; casual users run the single-command install on a laptop. Multi-model support covers Claude, GPT-4, and local models.
